No accent wall. There isn't really a place to stop & start it in an open floor plan. Definitely get a rug. Make sure it is large enough to go under the front 1/3 of the sofa and chairs. Coffee table does seem to be too large. A round ottoman would look better. Lower TV it should be 5-7" above console. Console should also be wider for that TV (25% wider than TV) but if it's new and cannot be returned, you can lower the TV to make it look less skimpy. You can use any colors as accent with your neutral back drop. The rule for color is usually 60-30-10. You got the 60 in neutrals, next pick a color you love and a coordinating color for the 10. For example: turquoise & orange;

Have you tried the sofa facing the TV? And moving the chairs to one on each side of the sofa, facing each other? Probably would require a narrower coffee table. One large plant in there would help too.

Please don't post pano pix. They warp scale and size too much to help us make any valid suggestions. What are those chairs on the right in photo 2? You need a smaller round glass coffee table. Lower the TV so it is 5" above the credenza, and pull the sofa around to face it. Put a chair right and left of the sofa, facing each other over the coffee table. You can angle them toward the TV if your family prefers them that way. I agree that you might want to make this a dining room.
