@Jayme Hobbs thank you for your input and ideas too. Love the pictures you posted. The wine cabinet was my husband's pick. It looks better and a little distressed in person not quite shabby chic.:) The chairs were my big purchase however when ever anybody walks in the room they talk about the wine cabinet. Based on the comments I received here I will stick with my beachy theme. The window treatments are from the previous owner which I will keep until I figure out the chandelier and furniture. beach=light,casual and airy. great suggestions above. especially like decos driftwood table and mantle and faux coral light and jaymes square white coffee table with drawers and feet. a light rug, fire screen and window treatments will be nice additions.

yikes, i think i must be the only one disagreeing here. I love that chandelier! Not sure if it's size will be swallowed up by the size of the room (sorry - hard for me to tell) or if it's substantial enough. I love the wall color and the couch and I would pull that wine cabinet out of the corner and show it off. I love wrought iron accents and I think they work well with the fireplace, the wine cabinet - and that chandelier is not a fancy-shmancy baubled piece which I think would look completely out of place. If you go beachy, i just beg you don't go kitschy :) I'm in FL and there are a lot of people that go that way :(

Everyone has really been wonderful on this site. I am very happy to have found it and appreciate all the comments. The room size is 14 x 23. The wrought iron chandelier's size is 32 1/3 wide and 28 1/4 high. I found a calculation that says the width can go up to 37 inches for the size of the room. Just not sure how high for my 8th ceilings with a coffee table underneath it. Thanks again for all the comments and help!

No, don't dislike the chandelier either. Was just worried that if you also went with a wrought iron coffee table, it would be too much. I'm liking all the suggestions everyone has given here. Looking forward to seeing the finished result :-)

For curtains I would do some gauze/linen white. Keep the room airy and breezy. I think small pops of pastels are cool mixed with natural fabrics and textures....like the driftwood table, sisal rugs, etc. Your chairs are so cool let them take center stage. I think the chandelier is ok, but maybe a bit heavy, but until you choose a table you can't really decide. A mantle over the FP would really help- the FP disapperars. something in white or a natural tone wood. This room is going to be gorgeous, you are making good choices.

Another arrangement would be to turn the sofa facing the fireplace and a chair on either side of fireplace. This way you don't walk into the back of couch and you can add another sitting area by the window wall. You would also be able to see liquor cabinet, rug and driftwood table all at the same time. Change yellow color to something pale blue/gray.

Chandelier with 8 ft. ceiling....? It's a beautiful room without a chandelier! Plus, the focal point is the fireplace.

Perhaps you love them, but I'd love it if you took off the brown vales from the shades. They keep distracting me and I think they are just weird. Sorry. I know they are the former owner's idea and if you like them, leave them of course.

@JWINTERIORS I really like the idea of changing the sofa to face the fireplace. I will try it however what you do not see in the picture is an entryway into the room on the other side of the fireplace.
@debnair There was no light in the room previously however I had 2 high hats installed and a light in the middle of the room. You do not see it in the picture because it was taken before Hurricane Sandy. All my furniture is currently covered because the house is under construction due to damage. Everyones ideas are so helpful! Thank you!

I'm still having an issue trying to find a chandelier for my living room because of my 8ft ceilings. The room is
14 x 23 and I'm hanging it over a coffee table. The width of the room allows for up to 37 inches. I can't find anything that tells me the height of a chandelier over a coffee table. My husband thought 24 inches was too low. What are your thoughts?

It would be very annoying if it would be in view when you're trying to have a conversation with someone.
Is there a hook where you would like to hang the chandelier? I'm going to suggest something silly, blow up a balloon, tie it to a piece of string and hang it from the hook. Adjust it so it is not in your view and you have the distance between bottom light and top table.

And you may have to give up on the idea of a chandelier above the coffee table :-(

@carolins Thank you for your suggestions. Love the Driftwood Floor Lamp maybe it will go in one of my other rooms. You can't see it in this picture however I have a outlet in the ceiling so it is either a chandelier or ceiling fan. I perfer a chandelier and will make sure the height does not hang too low. We do like the chandelier you found, but we think with the neutral colors and softer look you have in the room, a lighter finish would be ideal. You can still go with an iron design, if you like, but try maybe an antique white, or bleached wood style. I love Kelly's suggestion but too would balk at the price. OK, DIYers - get busy and give melcava a suggestion to replicate at a much lower cost. A chandlier will be lovely in the room but a flatter vs. dangly type will be better I think with the 8 ft ceilings. Loving the driftwood suggestions provided too - table & lamps/chandeliers. I also fell hard for the Coral Chandelier suggestion provided by 14th Street.

With 8 foot ceilings, and assuming there will be a chandelier installed with a coffee or cocktail table underneath it, the height of the chandelier and space between the fixture and floor/table depends on taste. It can be positioned low over a coffee table, or a bit higher up so it won't obstruct any views for conversation. We would say the chandelier should be at about eye level when standing up. Adversely, a chandelier hung lower may create better light and a feeling of intimacy.

Can you add a fan design for beach homes, if its hot this may work better for you.

I wouldn't add an overhead light. Lamps will be sufficient, and the lighting much more beautiful.

I love your chairs and think a chandelier will be great. I also think your space would benefit from the addition of a rug.

The height of the ceiling dictates how large a living room seating chandelier can be. The lower the ceiling the smaller the fixture. A fixture should be placed high enough not to interfere with people's line of vision when talking to those seated on opposite sides, and should not be so big someone would easily hit it when moving about in the room . . . thus a table of some sort under the chandelier is not only functional but a safety consideration. Sometimes ideas we would like to use may not be a good fit for the limits of a room.

Did some shopping around at light stores to view the chandeliers in person this weekend and someone suggested this light. What do you think? It has the lantern look and french to go with my chairs.

Wow! There are some super great choices here. I did a mock up of your living room. I put up 2 super beachy pendant lights in a natural linen. I'm wondering if you should move the wine cabinet to the area where I put the console table? (back wall) I'm not sure there is enough space but it appears as though it may be too big for that corner. Also, I "lightened" up the fireplace with a different fire screen. Just a thought. Your choice of furniture is perfect. And I love the airiness of your color palette. I'll come for the summer and hang out!
