Is there any of that colour grey in the countertops?

It has a tiny bit of grey. I feel like there is no contrast between the walls, cabinets and the countertop and it makes the kitchen look depresing to me.

What about a striking backsplash?

Yes I want to add a backsplash. But the real problem to me I think is the color itself of the cabinets or I'm just not used to it.

Can you live with it for a few weeks and see if you get used to it and like it?

What colours are in the rest of the house or what colours are your favorite?

I agree I think the grey looks fine, adding a backsplash would be perfect for contrast.

I'm no pro, but I think the issue is with undertone differences between your new paint color, the counter and your floors. The paint you've chosen is a very cool-toned grey while your floor and counter are warmer. I don't think you're going to be happy until you try a warmer toned paint. The paint looks like it has a green/blue tone, the counters seem more red/pink. Nice warm tone grays do exist, you'll just need to find the right one.

Or you could change out your granite for something with a different undertone in it...

Cabinets are a little too cool and light. Repaint them a warmer darker grey. The walls may work better then too. ButI think walls will have to be changed to coordinate. Warm beige and cool greys don't work well.

That's why we glazed the cabinets to warm it up. It is a lot of work but I'll repaint if needed ;0 just don't want to pick a wrong one again.

Do you know that name of your counter and can you tell us the brand and color of the gray you used?

I don't know the name of the counter but the wall color is behr elephant skin. but after the glaze it doesn't look like the original paint color

You might try Benjamin Moore Athena # 858. Get a sample and try it both at night and during the day.

light will change any color through out the day. I would get rid of the Grey walls. Too battle ship for my taste. pick a color you love and will use in acessories.

Stainless or Nickel Hardware on the doors and drawers.

Lighting, Lighting, Lighting! I recommend recessed or LED flush on the ceiling 4 total in the corners above the walking footprint area of the kitchen 10" out from the cabinet faces.

Not a must but stainless will lighten up the kitchen space! Replace the Range and Dishwasher with stainless and to some degree that light/dark contrast will go away.

Pick a pair of upper cabinet doors and modify with a glass insert with or without muntins. Use frosted glass with a design if you don't like to see the contents in the cabinet.

Your kitchen will be smoke'n!

I agree with that advice. I'm also about to 86 my oak cabinets and I have recently painted a living room wall gray. So my first impressions from your photos were that your color was too cold and dull and that you needed lots of good lighting to enliven the area. Before you go and repaint, try making giant swatches of new grays by painting poster board. Then you can tape it up on your cabinets and live with it a few days.

My living room walls are the same color as the kitchen. I don't think I want to change the wall color

Not sure if you would like this idea, but I think your kitchen would look great with two different colored cabinets. Maybe a darker warmer gray on the bottom cabinets and white on the top cabinets. That would tie in the trim and mantel on your fireplace but still warm up your kitchen. I love the paint color in your kitchen and living room. :)

I thought about that too! I think it would look great with darker gray on the bottom and white on the top. And I would take off the top cabinets behind the dining area and put two or three reclaimed wood shelves there.

And what to do with the tall pantry cabinet in the middle?

I would paint the tall pantry cabinet all white. I do like the shelving idea as well.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. I decided to keep the cabinet color. I'm actually falling in love with them. I guess I just needed time. I finished painting and now my problem is hardware. Can't decide on what finish and style. Any suggestions? I've been looking online almost every day for pulls and knobs. I like pulls but I feel if I do all pulls it will be too much since this is a u shape kitchen with a lot of cabinets.

By the way here is my kitchen before. And I would love to take out the fish tank but my husband loves it too much!

Just wanted to do an update. We decided to install new floors since we had too much carpet everywhere and that gave us an opportunity to remove the half wall in the kitchen...I always wanted an island.
