Marcia, is the soft spot a dark color or bruised color. It is on two of the roots on one tree? Probably best to notify the seller to inform them and follow up later. Then if there is further issues, you can inform them and see what resolve there can be. A friend told me this and I think it is very good info.

I like to pot up my newly received bare root trees in pots that give a couple inches on either side of the caudex and 2-3" below. I usually just make sure the soil mix is barely moist. You do not want to use tinder dry soil. Pot them up and not water in for 4 days. Keep in a low light area for a couple weeks, then move into more light. I do always soak the lower roots in Superthrive and Liquid transplanter for 1/2 - 1 hr.

I contacted the seller. He said to plant it and leave it in the shade. He did not say to water.

Rick the soft spots are the roots. They are still cream color. The two spots on one plant are only soft on these bigger roots. Everything else, other roots and the caudex are fine. Maybe it is just thirsty. There is no color change in the roots.

I don't think I have rot. I will soak them in growth hormone for an hour tomorrow. The spot are small and you can't see any color change like yours Dain. Thanks for the pic.

Well with planting the Obesum with the soft spots, they have now firmed up. Yeah!

I have them near my sun light which is right over the young seedlings. The seedlings have grown a 1/2" and greened up. It's cool and rainy so I put the two obesum right next to the light. It is only about 75 at the top of the seedlings and the room is 70.

At least I see some improvement. It is hard to just watch them. But I do it often.
