If your seating down in a room art etc. should be hung at eye level in a seated position For example 6inches over a sofa back Is the piano a baby grand or a console piano ? maybe 8inches -12"S above the baby grand. hanging pictures has nothing to do with how high your ceilings are to hang a picture. If it's a console against the wall the 6's rule will still be proper. If your in a hall wall standing then eye level would be 5'to51/2 foot to the top of a picture from the floor. Hanging art to high is one of the biggest design mistakes most make. Look at 95% of all decor rooms on Houzz and you will see the art/ mirror etc is hung close to what it is above it. So it's not floating in space above things. Using larger scale art will help with high ceilings. a 5 foot long piece of furniture should have aprox a 4 foot wide minimum piece of art and 3-5 foot tall. So the picture has the right proportions and is anchored to the furniture.

Just curious - what's on the wall opposite the windows where I see the yellow ceramic seat? I too have a long room and have "squared" it up by placing a focal point in the form of a side board with art and accessories on the short wall of the rectangle. A sectional lounge suite is difficult in these areas as placement is limited. I found that a smaller 3-seater sofa with occasional arm chairs allowed more flexibility. I was wondering if you removed the unit where the tv is, mounted the tv on the wall opposite the windows, had a smaller sofa placed across the windows but forward to allow access and a couple of occasional chairs with a coffee table in the middle to make a 3-sided conversation area. Good idea above to move the sideboard out of the dining area and into the lounge area as suggested above especially as there would be more space with the tv unit removed. PS I love the artwork you purchased. Anyway it's all food for thought!

Yes, I am planning to get the picture ledge with a front lip. Width would be about 4". And no i don't have children. The biggest printed digital art work i am planning to put would be in the size of 48" (w) x 29" (h), lightweight. I am also concern if i want to have 2 tiers of ledges above my bed. I am wondering how far apart should I place the ledges. My bed has attached headboard, height is 4'. And total height from floor to ceiling is 10'. So there should be 6' wall space above my headboard. Love the idea of picture ledge because it is easy for me to interchange the pictures and artworks.
