A couple of suggestions, though: I don't think the area rug, or the blue coffee table, or the throw pillows will work.

What if you paint the coffee table black; find some pillows that work for the new scheme, and a rug the same tone as your sofas...as seen in this inspiration photo.

This pillow looks as if has the black, sofa color and your wall color.

I should have added we sold all the furniture and will be buying new furniture.

Same rule applies...work around the black and the new colors in the room. I do think the rug should be plain and the same color as your new sofas.

Oh....paint the brass fire screen black, as well.

The darker the wall the more the fireplace will disappear, if that is what you want go dark. If you want the wall to compliment the fireplace a medium charcoal would work.

Don't make the wall with the fireplace an accent wall!!!

The mirror on the mantel is too massive for that spot.

A larger rug lighter in color would pull the area together better. The rug just fades into the marble.

New coffee table.

The rod for the drapes could be 6 or 8 inches higher. Curtains should be 2 to 2.5 times as wide as the window.

leelee are you suggesting that we dont' paint the wall? Agree with the mirror comment but we will mount our tv onto the fireplace instead. Do you think that will work well? Then I will try buying something from ikea to put all of our components in.

if we did shelves would you recommend they be black?

and we are opening up the wall between this room and the kitchen. The sofas will have to be on either side of the fireplace. Do you think that is a good set up? Should I send more pictures?

I am so confused I think you are right.. it will be too high... I am having such a difficult time with our renos. We are opening up the wall between this room and the kitchen and now I don't know if we should do that... Because if we do then we have to place the sofas on opposite ends... one of those ends is where the tv currently is... please help!
