Need help with my family room

We recently purchased a fixer-upper and are in the process of remodeling our family room. The walls are painted revere pewter and we will be adding white trim. I am trying to utilize the furniture from our old house, but to update the look with a new rug, pillows and wall decor. I just purchased the rug in the pictures attached. While I like the rug, I am thinking it is not quite right with the wall color and couch. Thoughts? Suggestions for other reasonable priced 9 x12 rugs and pillows that can help pull this room together?

I like the rug, but it sounds as if you purchased it to "pull the room together". I don't think a rug will do that for you here. If you really like it, You can keep it, you just need to repeat the color in art and accessories somewhere else. The furniture is a bit of a problem to be honest. The chair is dangling off to side and the color of the sectional doesn't play nicely with the Revere Pewter in your photos. Obviously you don't want to repaint the room since it sounds like you just painted, but perhaps in the future consider a change there or getting a slipcover made for your sectional. If you can create some balance in your room, that will help - I see that as the biggest challenge in your space as pictured. Balance the lone window with something on the wall of equal size and shape on the right (art, shelves, mirror, etc). Good luck.

It's hard to tell on a screen but the couch looks like it has a pink undertone and Revere Pewter has a green undertone. So one of them needs to change. Not sure what the colour is of the rug. Is it blue or grey?

Thanks for your comment. The couch has absolutely no pink undertones. It is a tan microfiber rowe sectional. The rug is gayish blue, more gray than blue.

Does the couch have a pink undertone? If it's a golden brown, that will work with either the rug or the walls, but not both. Otherwise you'd have green, blue and yellow undertones competing.

The couch does not have pink undertones. I think I will return the rug. Need advice on what direction to go with the rug.

Ok, who recommended Pewter Gray for this room with tan furniture? For some reason that color makes everything tan look pinkish. I will look for some rugs for you. WHat is your budget for a rug?

I think it is just the way the sunlight hit the couch in that picture. The couch doesn't look pink at all in person. I'd like to find a 9x12 rug for under $800. Preferably, closer to $500 as I have small children and eventually want to redo the whole room.

We are planning on putting a wood beam mantel under the tv. Do you still think the tv is too high?

If your remote won't work with the plant in the way, put a shelf in near the top to have access to cable box, but still hide all the wires and other components.

Put the mantel 7-8" above firebox and bottom of TV 5-7" above mantel. The top of TV should not be higher than the door frame.

I tried to re-arrange the room to get the chair out of the corner, but alas, the sectional only fits the way you have it. CAn you bring the chair out of the corner and angle it a bit and still have access to the patio door. Put a floor lamp behind chair or beside it and sofa arm for some light. Also put a lamp on that console on the wall opposite the PD.

I will try moving the chair out and angling it. I also like the idea of adding lamps. I don't care for the first two rug options, but I like the third one. Thanks for the suggestions!!

One more thing, hang some curtains to cover the slider. I would hang the panels on the right and then close to the left. Or hang on both sides and close to middle. I suggest panels close to wall color, maybe a linen fabric it will make the room feel more spacious.

I also think the 2rd rug is best for room and the reviews are great.
