Help! Paint with natural wood

Just moving in & cannot decide on paint color. There is beautiful natural wood throughout the house. This main room you see when entering the home & the walls connect upstairs as well as to the livingroom. I'm not sure if I do one color down & up the stairs or separate. the furniture in the pic is gone & I'm thinking to stain the floor hardwood darker.

Can you post new pics without all the previous owners stuff....? I wouldn't stain the parquet darker as the space is rather compact and not overly bright. You run the risk of it appearing even more claustrophobic with dark flooring. But man I'd love too see glass rails on that balcony instead of wood - it would move the space into transitional/contemporary and just look amazing and bright.

I'll get some pics of the empty space later today. I definitely can't do the glass, the house needs so much work, I won't have that budget, but you're right it would open it up beautifully & flow better. I am stumped on this entire space.

A good way to counter all the natural pine is to use a color with slightly green undertones, but still warm and bright - not jarring. Try this (wall color is Supposed to be Grassland but shows lighter)

I have a lot of natural oak and use creams/ creamy beige, light blues and light greens.

I like rusty empire's color choice. I would accessorize carefully, based on eastern or western light exposure.
