I think your choices are lovely -- the expensive choices (tile, counters, cabinets). I agree that the Kilim beige does not play nicely with the other light grey/white choices. Once the furniture goes in, you will see less of the Kilim beige. However, as soon as you can, please consider painting the walls a non beige. It depends on the colour of your furniture, rugs, curtains etc. Perhaps a grey would be a good neutral as opposed to the yellowy beige.

I guess by starter home I mean we upgraded a total of about 3 things in the home, and chose the smallest floor plan, and have been pushed and pressured throughout the whole process to be more extravagant and add more sq. footage. I did not mean that house was a craphole... I just meant that in the scale of what our builder offers, this was about as bare minimum as it gets.

What colors would look good with the kitchen choices we've already made? I fear things getting too washed out...

I think it looks nice! It's your first home and it will be so great to come home to your own place!

In my current home and my last rowhouse back East, we moved in and then got a feel for what we wanted to change.

Been there and done that - when we have a picture in our head and it doesn't turn out that way we thought, but I think you have a lovely start to your home. Once you get your own furnishings and touches to it, I think you will be happy. Your have a lovely kitchen and there are lots on this site would love to have it - having made bad decisions with regards to cupboards, counter, back splash etc. Give it a chance - I'm sure you will change your mind once you have added your personal touch - and as stated - paint is cheap. Take your time, we are all still perfecting our homes.

When we built our home in the mid '80s, I remember it being an exhausting stresspit of a process. We charged our appliances on a Sears credit card, as I recall. Now, your vision hasn't gone anywhere. You're both too close and too far at this point to see it.

Your choices are all fine. Your backsplash is stunning. Your floor is pretty and light in what could be a dark space. I wouldn't worry about your wall color with the house so empty but Sophie is right, after living with it for awhile, you can easily repaint. You're probably just too exhausted to even think about it and you don't need to. Killim is a great neutral and I don't personally think it clashes with gray. Oil rubbed bronze hardware will work well with it, as will nickel, like your faucet? which is very farmhouse. You can bring in brass, use polished nickel or glass for some bling, you have a lovely neutral background.

Agree with Angel. Don't be so hard on yourself, looks very nice. Painting is the easy part. Live with it for a while then you can decide on repaint int the walls.

I think this will be a beautiful kitchen. I love the unusual lines of the ceilings. The bright, lightness of all of your choices. Do go with the oil rubbed bronze cup handles on the drawers & small knobs on the doors.

Once you live with this for a while & have chosen some pretty items to place on the counters, bring in a table & chairs, your bar stools will add to the look too. Then you can think of changing the paint color. I would like to see some reclaimed wood run horizontally on the back of the bar. This will add to the rustic farmhouse feeling you are going for. What color are your appliances going to be? I hope white or black.

With your limited options you have done well and should congratulate yourself. Yes the yellow taupe walls are wrong but it's not insurmountable. If you have become a homeowner for the first time welcome to the real world - and that means most of us do our own painting... So get busy! But before committing to color you need to have your flooring choice pic posted here. Best of luck and congrats.

PS if you want a little less builder basic one of these pantry doors is an easy upgrade down the road and will suit the vibe you want. Paint it white to match the cabinetry. (I got mine as a clearance item and it really adds a lot of style.

That may be hard to see, but these were our choices. The gray tile for wet areas, the carpet is a shag gray, but pulls some brown too.... and then our backplash tile, and a 4x4 of granite.

Loving the ideas so far! We plan to do a rustic wood farmhouse table, and galvanized metal barstools. I love the idea about some reclaimed wood on the island back, and the bamboo roller shades.. maybe with some sheer curtains?

We are wired for 3 pendant lights above the counters... what would look good? Something natural and woven, or more industrial?

Oh and we chose black appliances.

I love what you've done! With your choices you'll have to go for a "farmhouse chic" vibe.
Think about painting the kitchen eating bar wall SW Egret White. It's a neutral that's not too warm not to cold. Paint your coffee table Egret White as well as this will balance out the space.
Now, for the stove side kitchen drawers only only onlyn...add 2" white ceramic round pulls (or white 2" round wooden pulls..doesn't matter) everywhere else do satin nickel. Satin nickel has more black in it than brushed. This would look better with your backsplash and be farmhouse chic.
Last, place a couple of oversized wire baskets on the countertop and kitchen table to put fresh fruit in. For an extra famrhouse touch put paper grass in the baskets....

I think accessories will go a long way to get the look your seeking. Also, If you don't like that beige color all over the house, it would be better to invest in repainting it than to work everything else around it and end up unhappy anyway.

The beige will be an acceptable neutral background for your farmhouse style vision for now. It is just all so empty at the moment. Once you get a rustic wood table and chairs on an area rug in there, some colourful pottery and art etc etc, things will look much better! Chose some earthy warm colours to balance all the bright white.
