I gathered up enough courage and grabbed my camera to assess the damage in my yard. It went down to 24F here. 12 hrs of below freezing last night. It seems damage may be minimal this time around. Sango Kaku, Nishiki Gawa and red maple seem droopy but look OK so far. My trident maple leafed out completely and is the most droopy. Have to wait and see.

Yes, here in southern Ontario, we were teased with a few bouts of abnormally warm weather off and on since February, And then spring actually started...and now we back to winter. Ground usually freezes up over night again. Supposedly, warmer weather is coming back towards the end of the week. Fortunately, my maples seem to have some sense, and their buds have remained pretty firmly closed while this nonsense has been happening.

I took a brief walk around and was pleasantly surprised- the damage was not nearly as extensive as I had feared. I need to give it a few days to be sure but I will definitely note which JM's lost leaves and which did not. I'm sure exposure had a lot to do with it.
