Stacked or staggered tile?

Tuesday begins tile installation in our master shower. I've chosen large 12x24 tiles. I can't decide if I should choose staggered or stacked installation. I like the photos I've seen of both. Is there a compelling reason to chose one over the other? ( Below is a photo of our hall bath just completed and done staggered. That tile is 10x13 though).

At 12 x 24 size, I think a 33% offset install would look very nice. Your other bath is 50% . Have your installer lay a small area on the floor for a demonstration and then decide.

l like staggered. Stacked will give a more contemporary look.

If it isn't staggered then the lines seem to dominate. I don't like that.

My father was a professional tile setter, did jobs for Dizzy Dean and many others who could hire anyone they wanted (many multimillionaires in the 60s, 70s and 80s, when millionaires were rare). Especially for large format, he advised staggered for greater strength . Same principle as brick being staggered .

Staggered (aka running bond) would tend to exaggerate any warpage in the tiles. Stacked makes it a tad easier to hide warpage.

TCNA standards recommend no more than a 33% offset when using large format tiles. Asking for 50%, against industry standard, puts the onus for any resulting lip page onto you, the consumer.

If you like Modern or Contemporary in that bath, then the current modern style is stacked. If you are going more transitional, then staggered. it also depends on what you are doing with the floors and the accent tiles.

Thanks, Jan. I was worried that the large tile wouldn't showcase itself in my smallish space. It really worked out nicely. It's not quite photo ready, but I plan to post. I appreciated all of the input. I've pulled a "comment without reading" before. Happens.
