If you do decide to get a new ceiling fan, it needs to hang down lower than it does right now because of your tall ceiling. You could definitely also go for a wall-mounted spot light that shines on the clock, but I also recommend something for ambient overall light, whether that takes the form of a ceiling fan with light kit (especially recommended for Southern summers!) or a chandelier or pendant.
