Odd kitchen "closet" becomes a functional pass through, enhancing the open floor plan

This kitchen layout included a pantry that was simply a closet with bi-fold doors. While the rest of the floor plan was open, this closet was an eyesore and it blocked the view to the dining room. Without moving or removing any walls, we opened this space up with a pass-through. This added a functional counter top with storage below, and a view that now spans from the kitchen all the way through the main floor.

Did it give you less storage in your kitchen?

First picture is from the kitchen side After, second one is before. Third picture is from the dining room side after and the 4th picture with the mirrors is what the dining room side looked like before the pass thru was added

As for the storage in the kitchen, it did reduce the storage a bit but it added counter and serving space which was more helpful and aesthetically pleasing

Very creative -- both functional and beautiful! Did you also open up the dining room wall opposite the pass-through?

The pass through is a great idea. I would have preferred if you had removed all the walls that made the pantry. For a quick fix I would remove the molding.

I think the new opening has much more appeal than the mirrors. Creative solution!
