What would you call your style? do you have any decor or elements that mean something that will be implemented in the home?

I think slate would be pretty but it would make the room look smaller and is a *** to clean

Changing out your lighting in the dining room, adding modern pendants over the island and adding some modern hardware to the cabinets would help.

I like the dark wood. An easy way to make it look modern while brightening the room could be recessed lighting on the top and bottom of your cabinets if you don't already have it.

To clarify, I'm buying this model of house, but im meeting with the designer Monday to pick and choose my interiors (floor cabinets counter tops etc) thank you for all the suggestions so far! I need as much help as I can get, hopefully I don't design something horrible!

Before you meet with the designer, hunt around on houzz.com for pictures of kitchens (and bathrooms) that appeal to you. Walk in with pictures you like so he/she can see what you like and can guide you in that direction. Depending on the builder, they may have limited options without a hefty upcharge. Be prepared.

You are choosing floor type, cabinet type & material and counter type color material?

If quartz is an option for counters I would choose it. A light to medium color is best. A shaker style cabinet goes with most styles of homes & white is very popular & brightens the space.

Quartz is more practical than a granite or marble. Quartz can come in a marble look. It needs no maintenance or sealing.

Floors can be a rectified textured porcelain in a 12" X 24" size tile laid in either a running bond or stacked pattern. Going light to medium color is best for looks & cleaning.

Rectified tile can be laid very close & tight & the grout used should be the same color as the tile giving an overall solid look. If going with a texture you can choose a linen texture or a wood texture.

If you have a choice have under cabinet LED lighting installed. If you are wanting a backsplash do not have the 4" one which comes with counters. Install the whole backsplash yourself & use a subway tile for a timeless, classic look.
