I would use a shower door because at that age, they could easily trip on a shower curtain. The first time I took a shower in my new house last year, I did not realize how slippery the tub floor was and I fell. Unfortunately, my husband had not had time to put up our shower doors yet and if I had the shower doors in place, I would not have ended up on the edge of the tub and almost falling out of the tub. I also would have had a railing to grab onto on that side of the tub since the grab bars are on the wall.

Do you mean a 4 inch curb? Barrier-free (i.e. no curb) would be best but is hard to do in a reno.

it's a condo so we had to build a step/curb...for sure non slippery floor and handle bars, seat. I'm just not sure if hinged glass door vs sliding door for safey

We have a hinged glass door. One issue that I have noticed is that because the grab bars are on the same wall as the hinges I can only access one grab bar at a time. I would feel more stable if I could use one hand on the inside grab bar and one on the outside grab bar at the same time. You would get that with a slider or curtain.

Forgot a dual shower ( with a hand held shower hose).

Hinged glass shower. I prefer frameless glass doors.

My folks had a largish one piece acrylic shower with a built in bench my dad could sit on while showering (he had a double hip replacement and was a bit unsteady on his feet). Hand rails on side and back. Sliding doors as I recall. He used it until he passed away, age 92.
