Delivery day! :D

My order from Roses Unlimited arrived today! And my Chamblees order just last week! I love this time of year!

Man, you've gotta love Roses Unlimited's packaging. They shipped 11 roses, some of which were pretty tall, & all of which had soft new growth, and not even one stem was broken. They are fairly difficult to remove from the boxes, but that's no big deal, I'd rather them get here safely than be easy to unpack. They definitely should be repotted soon, as they are much too big for their pots already. Chamblees packaging is similar & also good, but not quite as secure, I lost one of the main canes on my plum perfect in transport, and a couple of buds on cream veranda, but they traveled farther to get here, so it may not be entirely the packaging's fault.

Here are my Roses Unlimited plants, in and out of the box, they are:

Golden Zest

Bolero

Kronprincessin Viktoria

Souvenir Dr la Malmaison

Julia Child x2

Lemon Fizz

Kosmos Fairy Tale

Golden Gate

Madame Anisette

Mrs. BR Can't

You can see my Pomeranian Lydia wondering why she isn't outside as well.

beautiful bud opening on Kronprn V. I loved seeing this when I opened that first box! I had one a couple of years ago, but I never saw it bloom, & it didn't survive it's first winter... I blame it on my inexperience at the time.

Ignore the makeup on my hand, I work at a makeup counter & just got home.

big bud on Madame Anisette that weighs the whole plant down. MS is the tallest rose that has come this year so far, I guess she might be tall & skinny, which I guess is appropriate as she is a HT.

Julia child bud, so pretty! Looks different than the buds on my grafted specimen, maybe it's because it opened in the box.

Chamblee roses (terra cotta pots: Lone Star, Cream Veranda, Plum Perfect) next to Roses Unlimited (black pots) the Chamblee pots are much heavier because they retained much more of the soil. If you can't tell I'm on a Kordes kick, but can you blame me? Their foliage is so lovely, not to mention the blooms!

bud on plum perfect, it is very lavender in person, so lovely.

buds on Lone Star opening, so pretty & fragrant!

o/t but here are some clematis I bit from brushwood nursery a couple of weeks ago, very healthy, nice plants hopefully they'll all be planted soon.

I also have some tea roses coming soon from Rose Petals nursery, & I'm excited to see how they compare since I've never ordered from them before! I'll try to remember to photograph them too.

I can't wait to see these babies grow up!

-Jessica.

Thanks everyone!!! I also can't believe how big some of these are & How many of them have buds already! If only I could grow roses as well as these nurseries... I wonder what their secret is.

Carol, the color in the first photo is much closer to how it looks in real life, such a beautiful color& I have nothing like it!! I can't decide where to put it to show it off the best!

Rebecca, these will definitely take me a while to plant, and most of them are going into larger pots to wait until their planting sites are fully prepared, which I'm planning on taking most of the summer to do. My pot ghetto was already a little too full so now I really need to trim the fat, get rid of what I already have that is no good or a BS magnet & to put those that are really good in the ground... That is my project for the rest of the season :)

Suebelle, I'm sorry to hear that your Madame Anisette has not yet bloomed! That sounds very frustrating!! I would agree with your hubby, cut it back and maybe put some potassium rich fertilizer down & see what happens. I hope that my MA isn't a stingy bloomer, I don't have enough garden space to put up with that! I will be sure to post a photo of that bloom when it opens, just for you!

Gibsongirl, thank you! I speant many weeks planning and looking at lists, reviews, photos, posts on this forum, etc to make my list... So your compliment means a lot to me!

And a big thank you to everyone else as well! I will try to post photos as I get these planted and they progress!

Is it generally recommended to replant into larger containers before finally putting out into their permanent places? I'm just wondering how to deal with my shipment from Chamblee that's coming next week. Everyone seems to get their bands' root systems quite robust, but no one ever mentions the 1 gallon plants.

P.S. Your roses look amazing. Lovely choices all.

It is generally recommended by the nurseries to replant gallons into larger pots as well, I will usually try to put them in 3-5 gallon pots for a while to see how they grow to figure out where I want to put them. Sometimes however that is not the case, today I planted the Plum Perfect pictured above into an already established flowerbed near my front door, because I knew I wanted it to be somewhere prominent & that flowerbed gets a lot of sunlight & has pretty well tilled & amended soil. My soil is very sticky clay, so if I am planting a younger rose I like to make extra sure that the soil is well broken up & amended before planting. If I was planting in a more open, unprotected, or non-established garden I would probably want to get a little more size on the plant before planting it.

For anyone who is wondering, the roots on the Plum Perfect (from Chamblee) were very well developed & large, I'm hoping it likes it's new location & grows quickly so I can see more of these gorgeous roses soon!

Suebelle, here are a couple of photos of the Madame Anistette bloom as promised!

it had a very strong, spicy licorice fragrance to it. I also found it unusual that it didn't open up any more than the last photo, it didn't open all the way up & flatten out like a SDLM bloom does, it got to this open yet still cupped shape and just stayed that way for quite a few days. Finally I just snipped it off as it started to brown around the edges, the flower was very sturdy up until the bitter end, even after I snipped it off & threw it in a rubbish bin, not one petal fell off of it.

Wow!!! That's an awesome looking rose!!! I love the shape, the color and the amount of petals!!! Love it! Don't know if I would love the fragrance.

Thanks Carol! Isn't it SO pretty!? I love the shape, & the few greenish petals on the outside, and the slight touch of yellow in the middle. Just lovely. I can't believe this is just from a baby 1 gallon. The fragrance is definitely unique. I thought I knew what a licorice/anise rose fragrance was like, Julia child is said to have a licorice fragrance, but this one is 1000x more like it to me. And it is strong! I wouldn't necessarily say it is my favorite rose to sniff, but it is very unique and pleasant. I can see where her name came from.

Thanks so much for posting this. I can't wait to see mine bloom. I am getting very impatient. It was an established bush when I got it several months ago and it grew to 5 feet or more, but no buds. It was cut back a few weeks ago and it has lots of new growth, but still no buds. I am wondering if it just won't bloom on Fortuniana rootstock. I think I am going to order an own root bush from Roses Unlimited and give that I try. I also have Earth Angel on Fortuniana and it is doing the same thing. Growing, but no buds or blooms. Weird !!!

Any input or pictures will be appreciated on Earth Angel or Madame Anisette.

Thanks again for posting such beautiful pictures.
