Need help with wall paint color

Just bought a house and can't figure out the wall color for the kitchen. We are debating making the floors a hardwood (same as front of the house as you can see in one of the pics) but if we don't, I can't figure out which color to paint the wall. The cabinets are a light off white color. I am also debating painting the island a different color so that there aren't so many neutral colors in the room. I've heard of greige and am debating doing some version of that color? Please help!

Beautiful kitchen! I love the red wall color because it's beautiful and it makes those white cabinets pop off the wall!

Natural linen by Benjamin Moore (BM).
It is really soothing, and all my art work and cabinets go well with it. Cabinets are off white with an Espresso color island (like yours) and blackish-brown granite with a travertine tumbled med subway tile in various greiges. Looks sophisticated. We also have a med reddish-brown oak -higher end laminate floor and it goes just fine with it too.

If you see it on the BM sample it looks quite light, but shows darker on the walls. Great in all light conditions - pot lights, open blinds, sunny day, rainy day, closed blinds etc)I've had it for 8 years and have not tired of it.

    Good luck!!

First and foremost, congratulations on the new home! Your kitchen is a wonderful space and has great flow, but I can see why you wish to make a few changes. First, carrying the wood flooring into the kitchen is a terrific idea. It will actually make the space feel larger and more cohesive with the adjacent rooms and the darker flooring is in the same color family as the kitchen island so it will make more sense. The contrast will make the white cabinetry and granite counter tops really pop.

In regards to the wall color, I would add a gray to the walls to compliment the blue in the room in your 2nd photo and the room that is visible in the 1st and last photo. The trick to selecting the correct wall color is sampling. Not only does the paint color transform during the day, it also changes on different walls within the room and under natural or, synthetic light. Therefore, I would advise you to obtain 3 paint sample colors and paint a swatch on multiple walls. Live with it for a few days and note how the color changes and then decide. Color suggestion: Benjamin Moore's Balboa Mist. It is super versatile, will really open up the space, compliment your cabinetry and stainless steel finishes while acting as a great bridge color for the adjacent rooms.

I hope this information helps. Again, congratulations. Have fun making your new house a home!

I'm not sure why everyone is so gaga about grey. Your granite has brown in it, your floor is (or will be) dark brown. I'd go for something more cheerful, like a light blue, light periwinkle, light green (though greens can be tough), even a creamy very light yellow.
