should i be concerned by holes in leaves left by insects? i bought these trees from local nursery, and paid more than usual. ive bought Magnolias in past and had good luck, these cultivars are much higher quality than big box stuff. but im concerned because of high price tag.

i feel like if we can make it past this summer (year one) were good!

A few holes in the foliage caused by insects is no big deal. But you do want to be aware of any damage that gets too involved, like when the foliage becomes skeletonized or the tree begins to defoliate because of insect damage.

found this today? And I recently noticed new foliage turning black and wilting. i used milorganite early on after the frost. should chalk the dark leaves to that? There is an older Silver close by, if that helps. I immediately removed this leaf and disposed of it.

Im gonna get these little Hybrids up and running soon!! other than that these Freeman's are fast growers.

goodness the spots have gone away. .

we have two trees, 30 ft away. this one's leaves are small and wilted and the other is in good shape. what gives?

As you can see the top tree seems to have smaller leaves. It is closer to a silver maple than the bottom. Bottom's leaves are much larger and greener. Both were planted at same time in fall of last year. The top tree, has pushed more new growth this season, which seems to be indicative of stress?

I may prune these to get that classic shape later on. A couple low hanging branches and one or two parallel's. On the whole, after this season im gonna let em do their thing.

so both trees have tar spot. started looking at other Silver Maples around the neighborhood, seems every tree has this fungus. I treated with fungicide today, any suggestions?
