Will This Japanese Maple Survive?

I have a Japanese maple that I've had planted for about 3 years. He was doing really well until last year. We had a bad drought and all his leaves dried up. This year it seems all the branches are dead and no buds popping up. I did a scratch test on the main truck and it still has green under the bark. It literally seems that all the branches are dead. Is it possible to recover at this point?

Where are you located? If no viable buds on the tree (and photos not detailed enough to tell), it doesn't look good. I would still give it some time however - stressed trees can be slow to emerge from dormancy.

Thanks for the comment. Located south central Pa. No, there are no buds at all coming out. It seems that every branch is dead and dried. Only the trunk has any green color. Like you said, I'll give it some time to see what happens.

Unfortunately last year I didn't take notice to the leaves beginning to dry. As the color was similar to the normal color of the leaves. Definitely a big mistake on my part. To boot I got this guy at an end of season discount for around $70. Normally they are going for around $180- $200+ in this area.
