I do not care if it's going out of style! I love your kitchen!

Well, it does draw from old world sensibilities, which still has a market in Austin , Texas. It has generous proportions. You could take it to a modern style, at some cost. What were the comps like?

I would take the arches out and change the lighting and you have an updated kitchen. I think it is gorgeous, but needs the arches out and new lighting.

Could be my monitor but the walls appear light blue......? Not the best choice, and a change of lighting to something much simpler would help quite a bit.

Is it yours or something you were thinking of emulating? If the latter, I would simplify just a bit: : )

IMO classic is never going to go out of style exactly but probably a bit of tweaking is needed. I agree the arches and the lighting need changing

I still love that style and would take it in a heartbeat over my tiny, no storage, golden oak kitchen. It may not be the "in" thing, but you can't beat the elegance!

knowing how much effort it takes to keep one chandelier clean in the library... those two wouldnt work for me.

It is a beautiful kitchen! I would choose a warmer wall paint, change the lights, and replace the tile floor with light wood.

This look is completely dependent upon the geographical location, and style of the home. I think the architecture of the home determines what you do throughout the home. There is nothing worse then a house that doesn't flow, or coordinate. If it is this classic flow through out. One could update the lighting to a more structured fixture, (Feiss Harrow collection or something similar). I would paint the walls a soft white. I wouldn't mess with the cabinets, I think they coordinate well with what I can see of the rest of the space. It is hard to see, but what about switching the hardware to a black/bronze?

To be honest, I've done the lighting in hundreds of homes over the past 5 years and here in Northern Canada, we are finally seeing a peak in contemporary design they have had the Coastal States for 10 years. That being said, I just finished a gorgeous home with beautiful Travertine floors, lime stone fireplaces, chandeliers, the whole nine-yards. It turned out so beautifully and the client loves it.

I would:

-Look at what is trending in your location

-Look at the architecture of your home, if your not willing to change absolutely everything (AKA if you have arched doorways in 75% of the home changing them in the kitchen doesn't make sense) find consistency.

-Play with different ideas and combination before acting.

-Start with small decor changes; lighting, door hardware, painting walls and I think you'll find that this look can still work with some minor changes.

Nothing is timeless. As the answers show. Many comments about updating this less than20 year old space tell us that home infrastructure has joined the fashion merry go round. And everyone's wallets will be the poorer for it.

If you want to get off of the merry go round, then don't pursue fads. Purdue authenticity. Base the selections for your home on the character and style of the home itself. You may never be in style. But you won't be out of style either. Because you will have jumped off the fad bandwagon.

i realize now... the OP has not shared the reason for the question. are the pictures inspirational to you, and you want to make your kitchen look that way? is this your kitchen, and your sister in law dissed it as dated? are you considering putting your house on the market and need to know how best to present it?

Looks like a very nice traditional kitchen to me.

Unless there is no correlation whatsoever with the rest of the house-I wouldn't take the arches out. Arches are expensive feature, it's minimum 800 dollar to build one arch..and in my opinion they elevate the space-in case they belong of course. Why to redo the house into something it's not? Unless it's really more of a later addition, and adds to the mishmash of styles-I'd leave the arches where they are.

I'd also leave the lighting unless you hate it.

What I'd do-I'd be more playful with the furnishings. To provide a nice counterpoint with the general formality of the kitchen.

I'd also change the light blue but colors are extremely personal choice.

In short I don't see any reason to change the kitchen, unless this one irritates you or/and doesn't belong, in terms of the general scheme of things.

oh, well i'd buy it as the features that are a bit off to me are fixable. a coat of paint to cover the faux patina on the cabinets, and different light fixtures, simpler corbels. i wouldnt run away from the house based on this.

I think it is beautiful, and am glad to read some comments from others that don't care what is "in" if it is attractive or to your liking. What I want to do with my kitchen is not conventional and may have never been done. If i can talk my husband into it, I am going to do it anyway. LOL

You have to decide if YOU like it or not. It looks to be a very well designed kitchen with high-end products and finishes. It wouldn't be my style, but if you like it and would enjoy cooking and entertaining in it without a lot of expensive changes, then go for it!

It is a very nice, well done, expensive kitchen. If I were to make one suggestion it would be to change the chandeliers over the island to something simpler.

Id agree with everyone here. Not my style and not what I would do in a house I was looking to sell but if you like it then enjoy!

If you are looking to buy the house you can update without totally redoing the kitchen. as someone said the appliances are high end. You can paint the cabinets, ditch the cornices, change the counter tops and hardware and you'll have a new kitchen
