I like Anita's suggestion. The plates on top of the cabinets appear to be lost. Something bigger would be more attractive. Consult some decor magazines and/or houzz pics for ideas. Perhaps change the blinds ... perhaps something woven to match Anita's colour scheme.

I like your kitchen, it doesn't look too outdated to me. Perhaps you could change the blind over the window to something a bit brighter and add some accessories (useful ones) in the same colour. Ideas might be - a kettle, a toaster some tea towels. Your butcher block is looking a little tired. Could you stain it a darker colour? You could also take down a couple of cupboard doors and replaced them with glass doors. That way you could display some of your nicer things, you could add some lights to the cupboards as well. How about your light fixtures? Although they are very nice they are modern in design and your kitchen has a bit of a country vibe.

Paint the walls, change the counter top to laminate(not expensive) and change the backslash and knobs. Whole new look!!

I actually think your kitchen is pretty awesome. I would do a Roman shade over the sink- I think blinds are a little too office like for a kitchen. Maybe some pendant lighting instead of the track lighting to add some color. Change up the hardware, but make sure you choose something that matches the holes you already have or you will be patching and painting. I like a sleeker handle. A cool new faucet maybe.
