What kind of finish is on the parquet now? How old is the finish and the floor? You can have parquet sanded and refinished with easy care polyurethane if the old finish is kaput.

Thanks so much for responding. It's a new condo that comes with flooring that the developer installed. I've heard a lot about the tiles peeling and popping up over time, so am wondering if I should avoid the hassle of maintaining it and have them replaced by ceramic tiles before I move in.

If the condo isn't finished yet, you might want to get the ceramic tiles installed. But it it is already finished, try the parquet and check your builder's warranty.

If you like the parquet well enough, I'd keep it till a problem appeared. It may never happen and the parquet may still be there long after you're gone.

The old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind. You might find that you like the dark...who knows. Groveraxle is right (as usual)...no need to fix a problem that may not occur while you are there. And if you find maintaining it is too much trouble you can cover most of it with area rugs...they are MUCH cheaper than new tiles...and they can protect the finish while you are there.
