Maple Seedlings to Pots....Any advice please !!

Hi guys

Already posted a few Comments about my new Maple seedlings..

This additional post is to ask whether a Teaspoon of Perlite would assist the new Mix to help drainage when transferring the Seedlings into individual pots from the Seed Cells

Mike & Houzi have already offered some useful advice.

Mike suggested leavings the Seedlings in the Cells until they are twice as high as the Cells

Houzi has suggested leaving the seedlings until they have at least 2 sets of Leaves

Any more Guidelines in giving these Little Fellas every chance of thriving would be appreciated very much indeed...

Just a message to say Mike sent me a selection of seeds from Maple Valley in Washington.The yield has been outstanding..40 Seeds were planted and so far 27 have sprung up...Hats off to you Mike for sending me a Brilliant Selection of Viable Japanese Maple Seeds...

I'd agree with the suggestions you have already received from both Mike and Houzi. Your seedlings look great but you need to grow them on a bit before repotting into a larger container. And I would focus heavily on a bark-based soil mix for these guys when you plant up. Something like the 5-1-1 (5 parts bark fines, 1 part peat, 1 part perlite) or even the gritty mix discussed endlessly on the Container Gardening forum. These types of mixes are far superior to the common bagged potting soils available at most garden centers and box stores, UK or US!!

Are the Bark Fines referring to finely shredded Bark

I will post some more pix of the Seedlings in the trays in around 10 ~ 14 days.Hopefully they will be ready by then and you could kindly advise accordingly
