Good morning! I am a very novice gardner looking for a little guidance on a choice I have to make with shrubs around my deck. The deck is 12x12 and the planting will be all the way around it. This area gets full sun.
Right now I have crimson pygmy barberry and dwarf limelight hydrangeas selected. I love the color of the barberry and the contrast with the lime of the hydrangeas. What I'm debating is swapping out the barberries with wine and roses or fine wine Weigela. I love their foliage color as well but they have the added benefit of no thorns and spring flowers. My concern is how big and wild they will get. I know I can prune them but trying to gauge their growth, I guess. My preference is something that stays somewhat compact and tidy looking.
Does anyone have experience with either the Fine Wine or Wine and Roses Weigela?
