Seems fairly straightforward. Looks like a standard spice pullout. To make the knife block, use 3" (measure actual available width) wood pieces. Run wood through a table saw with the blade set at minimal depth to create the knife opening. Optionally, maybe a router could create the openings. Create blocks with different width openings to accommodate difference size knives. Glue the blocks together & install in the spice drawer pullout. Similar to the instructions here.

I'd prefer the knife storage be closer to the prep zone than beside the stove as shown, assuming the photo above has a prep area closer to a water source.
