New A/V system design -- need help

last modified: 10 years ago

We're remodeling about half of our house, and I'm looking for advice on our A/V system. I know generally what I want to do, but I have no idea how to approach it.

1. TV system

We'll have probably 3 TVs in the house. One will be in a small TV room. One (big one) will be in the living room area of our great room. And I'd like to have a small TV in the kitchen, which is on the other side of the great room. I would like all these TVs to be able to use our Tivo system along with the various streaming services (Netflix, Amazon, etc.) that we can access through the Tivo. And, if possible, it would be nice if we could watch different things on the different TVs at the same time. We use Xfinity from Comcast cable, by the way.

2. Sound

For the sound system in the great room, I'd like to have a system that will allow the following:

  • I could have just the speakers in the kitchen on
  • We could have just the speakers on the living room end on
  • We could have both sets of speakers on at the same time

3. Budget

Not big. I don't want to break the bank on this. Also, I want something that's doesn't require an electrical engineering degree to operate.

Can anyone suggest how I should start to tackle this design? Thanks in advance!
