And what is where you are standing to take the pic, and the wall where the grandfather clock is? Helps to see all four walls in a room.

I would angle it in the other corner from the fireplace. Then you need seating that will get you close enough to both the tv and the fireplace, but mainly to the tv. My guess is you'll watch tv more than just the fireplace so that location is more important.

I'm standing in the entrance to the living room. The sectional is to the left.

I'd put the sectional at an angle facing the far corner of the room, put the TV in that corner, and get a console table to put behind the sofa. That way, you can enjoy both the TV and the FP.

The thing is with putting the sectional that way is to the right is 2 big windows looking out to the backyard and looking out onto a lake so if our back is to that window we can't enjoy the view of the lake.

I've never understood these tv cutouts. Do the people designing these think no one will ever want to change the size of their tv to a LARGER one? I guess the obvious answer of a smaller tv is out of the question. Maybe this one could go in a different room?

Even though you are renting, you might ask the landlord if you could add an adjustable tv mount that could hold yout tv in front of the cutout since your tv is too wide. If the tv were smaller for the next tenants, they could have the tv inside the opening. The depth of the cutout might have to be made smaller (maybe 10 inches deep). This would be an improvement for future tv use since few people have deep tv's anymore.

We had a wall of built in shelves with a very deep cabinet for the tv that we removed the doors, had a 10 inch deep enclosure built, installed a tv mount and the tv looks more like it belongs. Our tv mount can adjust in or out 10 inches.

Then put the sectional against that far wall that faces the window, but pulled out from the wall a bit (again, a console table behind the sofa to hold a couple of lamps and knickknacks), and put the TV at an angle where the clock is. Better anyway since the TV won't get glare from the window this way.
