I just got a wire rack shelf with 3 shelves next to my washer from Lowe's. It fits a plastic laundry basket on each shelf, I have my family sort them when they put them in. I love the look of those rolling one, but I don't think they use space efficiently.

Your going to need a lot of space for the rolling carts, but I'd love to have one of those.

The baskets in the cubby would irritate me with having to pull it out... pull a fraction too far and it lands on your feet.

I prefer a sorter, maybe your sorter is just a small one? My sorters would hold a lot more clothes than those baskets, is open, and on wheels.

Mama pinky can you post a link to yours? I agree, lots of cabinet space wasted with the carts, but really don't plan on storing much except extra detergent there.

I have baskets for: whites that lint, whites that don't lint, darks, colored, kitchen, nylon stockings ( their dye comes out for a long time and they cannot be washed with anything else) and one offs (new things, delicate things or things that have a dye that I know from prior experience will run). If there were more than just the two of us, I would add a basket for sheets and another for towels. My basket is the size of a full load so if the basket is full I know that it's time to run a load.

We sort like Roc. But there are only two of us nowadays. My neighbor has this: Amazon Rolling Sorter. One for each kid's closet. It can also roll under her counter.

Rococo- The floor is my sorter currently! I can't stand it!!! Grosses me out.

I think I'm going to opt for rolling sorters under the countertop instead of doing cabinets under the counter.

Family of 6 here. I have a rolling sorter (I don't use the rolling feature) with a bar overhead for hanging clothes. This bar has been so useful for me! I also have a collapsable drying rack with 3 levels for things that don't go in the dryer. I have a 12 X 6 laundry room that my husband and I have re-done to make it user friendly and clutter free. I store my ironing equipment on one of the walls, and my steamer in the small closet with the brooms and recycling. I fold laundry from the top of the dryer and put it in piles on the countertop where each child knows to come and grab their clothes. I enjoyed the process of making this little room so functional. @dietitian - We don't wear outdoor shoes in the house otherwise I would not use the floor though that has an indoor-outdoor rug vacuumed twice weekly.

Elcamino good to hear from you that an organized laundry room helps! I like the idea of making the kids come get their laundry!!! I will probably use the rolling feature because countertop under which they will store is on the adjacent wall, not right next to machines, due to the it the machine wall being small. The drying rack will be next to washing machine in the corner, and the sink on the adjacent wall , then the counter begins.

You really opened up your galley kitchen, which is doubly impressive as you did the work yourself. As for an organized laundry room, I have to say that I enjoy my laundry chores so much more in my new room. It is pretty and functional, and no one really spends much time there but me, so it is almost always cleaned and organized...unlike the rest of my house.
