End tables, coffee table, table lamps, and more artwork. Frame the picture you have. Using framed, not unframed, artwork look less bachelor-pad. Paint the room in a much lighter color than the sofa-matching khaki.

Are you buying new furniture or trying to use what you have? The 2 sofas look disconnected. If you want to keep one, I would pick the one in the best condition. and invest in 2 chairs. How is the room being used. No TV, here right? Of course end tables and lamps are a must for better lighting. Get rid of the gray dark walls.

I would start with the furniture. Find a sofa and 2 chairs that you like and then go from there. If you are using the space for just relaxing and conversation you might want to have 4 comfortable chairs with a large ottoman or coffee table in the middle.

I would like to get rid of both sofas. Although the brown one is imperfect condition , I hate how dark it is.

Bachelor pads often are short on lighting, art, accessories, and an accent color, so you will need to take care of those elements. At least you are starting with an Oriental style rug which will give you colors to choose from. If you want to make the room more bright, you may need to paint the walls some version of white. The arrangement of the sofas and some comfortable chairs can be adjusted until you find a good layout. If there are no comfortable chairs, choose one of the non-brown colors in the rug for the fabric.

Use a chest of drawers on one side of the sofa, with a framed mirror above it for some sparkle, and an end table on the other, with two large lamps. The furniture should be arranged into more of an L shape, so it is connected. Just those few things will make the room more inviting.

That's such a pretty bay window. Because you're open to changing furniture, I think a pair of matching chairs with a side table would highlight the window wall better than a straight sofa would. As long as the different seating wouldn't compromise your use of the space.

New paint (light blue or green?) and a sun-loving plant by the window would give the room a fresh, lively feel. :)

Thank you! I just love the idea of having one couch against the wall, and then the two chairs and a small table by the window - I can't believe I haven't thought of this yet.. .this would totally add more light to the room and would highlight the beautiful windows more!

Susan - loving the layout ideas you posted. i think your dimensions look about right, but i can get those for you:) REALLY loving the idea of the two chairs by the window.. it will let more light inside too. I don't think we need two couches. it is our primary sitting area, but we typically only use one couch..
