To mount light fixtures on a mirror, you need to plan ahead and select your fixtures, making sure they will fit where you want them. Then you will have the electrician install the electrical connection for the fixtures before you have the mirror people come to measure for the mirror. Make sure that you know precisely where the fixtures will go before the electrician arrives. The mirror people cut a hole in the mirror for each fixture before mounting the mirror on your wall. Then your electrician comes back and installs the fixtures.

If you are having light fixtures between mirrors, you again must measure carefully to be sure there is enough space for the fixtures you select.

As a designer, I like to draw the space to scale to figure out what size mirrors and fixtures are needed before any of the work begins.

How do you decide if the lights should be on the mirror (full mirror across double vanity) or you should have separate mirrors with the lights on the wall?

Figure out how much space you'll have for individual mirrors and decide if you think they are as big as you would like. If you're happy with the mirror size, then that is one option to consider. If you're not happy with the size, then you can use sheet mirror, wall to wall, splash to ceiling.

I don't understand your question about the back of the light. What reflected part do your mean.

You'll have a lot lighter looking room with the bigger mirror option, but otherwise it's a matter of what look you prefer.

on mirrors is great if you are doing large mirrors. if not and they are framed mirrors go to the left and right if you can. pendant light must have some filler light, as it shines down onto your face, casting shadows.

On mirror is also more expensive generally due to mirror cutting depending on who does the mirrors. We often mount them to the frame if we are framing the mirror for a nice look as well.

Carolyn - was wondering about seeing the back of the light in the mirror reflection.

ceiling is 10', is that too big for a mirror? I think they would have to do it in 2 pcs because of length (about 135")

Disregard the "tower" in the middle of this vanity, but do see that moulding can be added so that the mirror doesn't have to go up the entire 10'. And yes, the mirror will be installed in several pieces, as all big mirrors have to be. If you examine mirror photos on houzz, you'll see the seams. It's normal to have them and the mirror folks know where to put them for the best results.

The back of the light will be right up against the mirror so you will not see it reflected in the mirror.

How many lumens should each light have if there are 4 lights on wall?
Not sure of total square feet but shower and toilet each have a light. There is 8' ceiling over shower/toilet, which is behind you when looking at mirror wall.
Maybe 3-4 ft walkway.

My lights are terrible. They give off very little light, they are mounted on 10' full arched mirror.

If each of the 4 fixtures delivers the equivalent of 100 watts of light, that should be plenty for the vanity area. You can find online what the lumen equivalent would be. You should put the fixtures on a dimmer.

The internet tells me that 1600 lumens is equivalent to 100 watts incandescent. Thank you!

60 watts per light would do, 200 watts is a lot to get out of single sconces. imagine the blaring of that amount of light. really, just install dimmers, and go LED warm white light. lumens are here and there when it comes to LED it has a lot to do with the color of the light, the more white the more lumens... so that being said, get what you like, assuming you will have a few of these and over head lighting you should be set.

@sue the lights you have might be terrible due to A are they shining up or down? B what type of light bulb are you using C is there other light in the room

I'm looking for LED in 3000 color temperature and 90 CRI. We will put dimmers on them.
