I would go with this lighting plan.you can never have too much light in the kitchen.

looking at it again, I would one more light to the plan. where you have moved one light away from the rectangle to light the small passage in the lower left corner, move it back to the rectangle and place another light in passage.

Yes! Add lights as in your schematic. Especially in a kitchen you won't be sorry to have that ambiant light. At all.

Would add 6 led can lights 6 inch in diameter on a dimmer switch.

So there is no need to have the can lights lined up with edge of counters since I have under-cabinet lighting? Thats what has me confused.

The more light you have in your kitchen, the more you can show off your beautiful kitchen design and kitchen cabinets :) Consider how much do you want to highlight the kitchen and if you want it to act as the center piece of your house.

Hate to disagree with everyone, but this is way too much lighting for a small kitchen. It will feel like an overlit store when all the lights are on. Even with a dimmer all those can lights are unnecessary.

Put a can light at the task areas, i.e. the front edge of the sink, the front edge of the range and in front of the refrigerator. Then add maybe two or three additional lights at the bottom and right side of the plan to eliminate any dark spots.
