I would paint all the surfaces the BM Revere Pewter color..including the ceiling. I choose to paint most ceilings a color..not white. My reason for you is that if it is all the same it will not draw attention to all the different heights and angles. It will help it look more in proportion. You may also consider installing a Roman shade with a little color and a little pattern over the portion just above the door..but install it as a rectangle where the top goes from wall to wall..this will straighten the lines on the inside and make it all a little more coherent. You could choose a color from the large patterned with color rug I hope you will have in the foyer.
