1) No. If the label did not specifically state the Nitrogen fixing bacteria were applied to the seeds they were not.

2) Probably not. As long as the Acacia is growing it has the potential to fix Nitrogen.

3. Adding bacteria to potted plants probably is a large waste of money since the environment in that container is not really conducive to supporting bacterial life. That is one reason why many organic growers do not consider container growing to be organic.

I am not sure how these statements of problems with microbes in containers got started. But Professional Propagators, Forestry Container Nurseries and other Native growers have no problems. Things seem to get repeated in forums without verification, so its always good to do your own testing ,plus use high quality inoculates. You can Try Dr Earth inoculate, then check the root system in a month or so.

So actually just got a shipment of some acacia today and I see some nodules! I am now going to attempt to grow some of this bacteria on an agar plate and then introduce it into the plant. see how this works...

Addition: As with any Plant, be cautious with any supplemental nutrients added to growing mediums. Some findings are that Natives are sensitive to Phosphorus levels. Many Native Plant mixes, are promoting their low Phosphorus Contents now. There are certain minerals that enhance Nitrogen Fixation. The Plants appearance/ growth rate wiil indicate the Nitrogen Levels being received. The are also free living N fixing bacterias , So a good variety of organisms stated in the later posts, should be helpful. I was raising Alfalfa, CA Lupines, Black Locusts, Ceanothus, and Big Mountain Sagebrush, some of the other N fixing species. The Mesquites are popular in the SouthWest US.
