I plan to set up dripline tomorrow night and put newspaper and then mulch with hay. I have access to a lot of compost (composted leaves, grass, etc from city). Should I put a 2-4" layer of mulch on top of newspaper and then top with hay or just use newspaper/hay without the compost? I've read straw is better but I have free hay that I cant pass up.
