DH has not yet admitted that my kitchen obsession was worthwhile....but he did say that he really enjoys stepping into the kitchen....

I saw a similar sink setup in an otherwise really nice and high end remodel in my neighborhood. Here was a huge kitchen that didn't even have a sink big enough to soak a casserole dish!

I like her colors; the layout, tho, is a real shame. I'd be frustrated if I had to use that sink.

It's too bad that the outlet on the end of the peninsula isn't a 220v. I'd be tempted to clear everything out of the end cabinet in the peninsula, and push the range over there. A cheap cabinet from the Re-store, and a nice piece of plywood across the spot vacated by the range would be an improvement in prep area, IMO.

Well, now that we've lived in our house for over a year he's very glad I spent so much time with that graph paper :-) I recently was given a tour of a neighbor's home that is very very similar in footprint and age as ours (they did a gut renovation about ten years ago.) It is so inefficient compared to ours; her kitchen is larger by square footage, but she only has about 7 linear feet of countertop. When I told my husband about the tour, I felt SO incredibly proud of myself!

As you should Benje. Each time he goes into the kitchen or one of the closets, he's complaining. LOL. He only complained about having to share the guest bedroom with his office in our condo. Never about how things were laid out. He just assumed everyone had well laid out spaces.

I don't get it! I'm not much of a cook. I cook at home 2x a week but even I know a good sized sink is a treasure. And being that I am not a fan of cooking you can be sure that I want it as easy and workable as possible when I do cook. If I have to take extra steps it's going to mean I'm less likely than even now to want to cook.

I like the colors too. The whole layout is frustrating. I can't prep to the left of the sink because of all the stuff we need to keep there, and I can't prep to the right of sink because the stove is there. That leaves me prepping on the peninsula. Ugh.

If I move DH's toaster and coffee maker over to the left of the fridge, then he'll complain about having to go back and forth to get anything.

I hate to say it but I've never had that nice a kitchen anyplace I've bought or rented. The sink would bother me but believe me, I've had far worse.

I'm NOT saying one should not obsess over ones own kitchen - lord knows I have spent months doing just that - but it's fresh, clean and attractive, something I was never able to say about the kitchens I "inherited".

That layout is not dissimilar to the one in the condo we rented last year. Two things that bugged me the most were the barrier pennisulas and the six steps between all counters and appliances. I completely stopped cooking the whole time we were there. I thought I had just lost interest in cooking, but as soon as we were back home in a well planned kitchen, I got right back in the habit.

Whoa, some of those choices are head scratchers. Are you sure you didn't just want your design to look even more wonderful just by comparison? I kid, but that must be a very challenging kitchen to use. Wishing you a speedy build. Although, like Suzanne, I have suffered through much worse in rentals and a trailer we lived in for too many years.

No thanks. She thought the kitchen was fine as it was. This is a 3 bedroom but she took the closet out of the third bedroom. I had suggested she put it back because it would help sell it quicker so she can call it a true 3 br, but she refused and a closet is a lot cheaper.

It looks nice, but it isn't. I've lived in some pretty dismal looking kitchens over the years, but they functioned a heck of a lot better than this one does. Instead of moving fluidly from fridge to sink to counter, I'm finding I'm criss crossing the kitchen to get silverware from one side, and bowls from the other. And it's not as if I can put things where they make the most sense because the cabinets are too narrow to put bowls where they need to be, etc.

How I knew that I could never have tile in a kitchen is that when we were renovating our house we moved into one that had tile in the kitchen. Within a month my legs were killing me. I bought mats and gel-soled shoes which solved the problem.

Maybe this could be a solution for those spouses/partners who don't get the obsession with graph paper and research and GW, live in a poor planned kitchen. Although in our case that was our reality.

Isn't it nice to feel vindicated? ;) There's a reason why you happened to move into this kitchen - to help get your DH into the right frame of mind to agree to everything you want for the new house!

My DH never complains about living in a dysfunctional kitchen and trust me our kitchen in NY is not the most functional either (but a heck of a lot better than this one), but he hasn't stopped complaining since we moved in on Friday. LOL.

Thank you. Not really because once I had removed my beautiful light fixtures and replaced them with the Blue Box specials, it didn't quite feel like home anymore. Plus I am already anticipating our new house. And while I love a house that functions well and miss it for that reason, my home is where ever those I love are.

Yes I remember your kitchen and how dysfunctional it is. Your new kitchen will be such a pleasure. This sink is wonderful, if you like feeling like a bad child being sent to the corner for time out. LOL.

Oh she'll sell if she drops the price enough. Like I said, the kitchen is only part of the problem.

The closets are so poorly arranged that you can't put things into the closet because she has part of the shelving blocked by the closet doors.

She has no true third bedroom because she took out the closet and then added glass doors opening into the living room. That made it more difficult to put furniture anywhere but in one corner of the living room, so now the couches are jammed into the corner, with a HUGE open space in the middle of the room between the living room and the front door. Wasted space.

The problem is she wants to put the place back on the market in January which is fine. We are happy to help her sell it and we have the place until the end of April next year. Plus, I made sure to hang my paintings, and make the place look nice so when she does put it back on, it shows as well as it can.

But, because she doesn't have a closet in what is now my office, half my supplies are in one of the bedroom closets. DH's closet is also the linen closet because she has no linen closet and as mentioned I had to take the drawers out of 1/2 the pantry so I could have a place to store mops, etc. This is a problem because it's going to make people pause and wonder where they will put their things.

The difference is in my old condo, the kitchen was just for cooking. No place to put a small table and chairs and no place for a W/D. This kitchen is trying to do too much in what is essentially an even smaller space.

Exactly. In the condo he complained that every time he had to use the keurig he had to pull it out from under the garage because it was too high to lift the lid from under the cabinet. With the new kitchen I've corrected that problem. I also corrected the problem him not being able to store his coffee cups above his keurig.

LOL. I've lived in places where the people were like that. And while it would be nice for me to have some fancy chef range, I don't cook enough to make it worthwhile myself. Hence the Fridgidaire or Bosch 500 oven. Both good quality and "good enough" for the amount of times I'll ever use it.
