Do you mean 60" off the floor to the light source (bulb), or the bottom of the sconce, the middle of the sconce, or the top of the sconce?

It depends on the height of the end user and if you are mounting up or down.... when mounted up I put them so the globes are right above eye level. If you put it below eye level the bulb could be blinding.. That puts sconces typically 60" off the floor. If you are taller it can be 66" to 72" and not look bad. If mounting sconces down 60" is also a good rule of thumb to avoid exposed bulbs.

Nichole you are 100% correct regarding the end user and specific fixture selected. I encourage my clients to make light fixture selections very early in the process so when we do our rough electrical walkthrough we can discuss heights based on the actual fixtures being used.

Yes, the sconces are meant to, "frame the face" if you will of the user". Typically between (as mentioned above) 66 to 70". Hopefully there is not a 5'7" person married to a professional basketball player in this room!
