Do you live in a sunny, warm climate or more northerly? I am in Vancouver (which is darker, rainy and lush green) so good choices for homes are nature colours like moss green, tans, browns and brown toned colours. If you are in a hot sunny climate you will want a lighter feel to your colours (so a lighter grey as opposed to too dark).

It is hard to suggest a colour scheme for a home if I can't see it in person. The advice I always give clients is for them to drive around the neighborhood and check out home colours they love. That can be the best inspiration for you to make a decision. If you find a grey (or other colour) you love on a home maybe ask the homeowner which colour they used.

Your home is already beautiful! Yes, I would remove the shutters, and I would keep a similar paint color. I think that gray will be too cold/harsh.
