Do you like tile? I hate it, so I would be inclined to suggest wood. So you see, it is very difficult to give you advice. There are hundreds of different floor styles. You Must first decide what material you want. Then tell us what colors the rest of your home is decorated in, or at least what you like, etc

We remodeled last year and I am OBSESSED with my floor and so is everyone who walks into our house. This is a porcelain tile from Home Depot. I can get more details if you like it. We have it in our kitchen, dining room, and office.

I prefer it with more of a color-matched grout. You can see in my dining room, when they mixed the grout, it was definitely lighter than the grout batch they used in the kitchen, but I eventually got over it :0)

I think the one you show is way too light. We also have hardwood adjacent to our tile and it pulls together really nicely bc there are warm tones in the tile. Here's a pic!

Provided that you are looking to do an extensive renovation I'm not quite sure what your budget is on flooring but thought to inquire.

You are currently looking for new flooring on what would be a high-traffic environment from the main-floor to the kitchen.

I recommend buying several tiles and laying them out. During our remodel, I went to Home Depot and you can purchase individual in-stock tiles and return them. So, when I was getting ideas before I made a decision, I would buy like a dozen tiles and lay them out to get a true feel for what the floor would look like. Keep us posted! But I think you're on the right track in tRNA of getting a tile that is either rectangular or plank-shaped. IMO!

Sorry, we don't deal with tile, but I'm sure you'll find a lot of assistance from other fellow users on Houzz. Looks like you're on the right track!

nbursh, I was literally just at home depot tonight looking at your floor tile!! For that particular tile it was really hard for me to get an idea of it with just one tile (although what you said about getting a bunch of different tiles as a sample and bringing them home is a great idea, whether from HD or your local flooring stores). Anyway, seeing your photos was super helpful! Anitafervaha, it is a little hard to see the detail of the tile, maybe a picture of it flat on the floor and close up so we can see the texture?

yes I can def send...I myself am having second thoughts about the dullness of the tile..i actually quite am liking the shiny grey plain porcelain tile. Its the one closest to living room entry

Hi anitafervaha! It is still really hard to see any details in the tiles because the picture is far away and can't be zoomed in. I know generally what the marble type one looks like (I have been out tile shopping and seen some) and I like the look, but it has a very definite style (more formal/tradition), at least to me (very pretty though!). Which I like, but I don't know what you are going for. From your first post, the second picture after your picture of your current floors, showed some floors that were really beautiful!

Hi there.... jbeanie06 so the marble one type I am thinking no because our new countertops we are planning to do that look... the tile I am thinking is in the running now is the shiny plain grey porcelin. In the pic above it is the one that is top right. I am also debating the idea of doing tile in entry way then some wood then tile again in kitchen.

I bet your counters are going to be gorgeous! And I love wood if you can do it! We were going to, but finally decided against it because we couldn't do solid hardwood with our slab foundation and we are not sure if we will eventually move and rent out the house (thus tile would be more durable). If you want to do a close up picture of the shiny grey porcelain I would love to see it, although I know you have taken lots of pictures already lol. I just can't really offer you much of an opinion since I can't see it clearly.

I think it does. It looks like more of a solid color? You already mentioned the shine, which I can see. If this is correct then it is definitely more of a modern look. Are you going for more modern, traditional, or transitional? Somehow I am thinking not rustic...lol. One other thing, since it is shiny it is probably polished, which can be slick. Just something to be aware of in an entrance way. Lots of people have slick marble in their entrance ways though, it is just something to consider and be aware of is all :).

yes it is polished and is solid. We are going for the modern look. The tile I had originally chosen was matte finish with a little bit of texture but I was afraid that would look dull. I was worried about the slick or slippery surface of polished if we do throughout entry foyer and kitchen though... ahhhh very difficult to decide... thanks for your feedback.

If you are going for modern then that is perfect as far as looks! The slickness is something to think about. I guess it depends on your situation. Kids? I wouldn't do it. But if that isn't part of the equation, then for both pets (if you have them) and adults some well placed runners, entry/kitchen mats might work...

Appreciate the comments. Yes we have two kids and lots of kids in the family. hmmm... maybe the polished isn't the way to go then.

I have been doing a TON of floor shopping, so I understand how frustrating trying to make a choice can be. I think we are all probably better at looking at it from a distance than looking at it for ourselves at a certain point haha. But I have to say, as nice as that tile goes with your style, I probably would say polished wouldn't be what I would choose with kids. I am sure whatever you choose will be lovely though!

could we do a LVP or LVT in entry, foyer and kitchen and have hardwood everywhere else? I think when you have two wood looking sufaces it looks odd doesn't it?

I like the matt greige tile. You really can't go wrong with it. It's pretty, sophisticated & transitional! The grey shiny looks too shiny and too "cool".
I've also seen houses that are able to "match-up " hardwood, and it looks great.

nbursh, that is SUCH a good idea, especially with the plank flooring! There is another plank flooring I am considering, but it comes from a flooring company. I'm not even sure they have it in stock right now, so I don't know if it would be as easy as with HD to get a bunch of pieces or even a box since timing is an issue as well. The only thing I am worried about with the Marazzi from HD that you have is that it says that it isn't rectified. Do you know if there were any problems with installation? Or did you do it yourself? I have heard tile installers really dislike working with non rectified tiles.

We did our entire home with 2 different size planks of tile that look so much like wood it's incredible . It is from Arizonia Tile. I'm so happy with this and the texture of it. Smooth yet not slippery . They have some beautiful flooring on the wood look.
