Nanawall. A thousand dollars a foot, plus reengineering the entire support system of the house to install a large enough header for the huge opening.

I think the nanawall was what the OP was referring to as bulky bi-folds. How about a "garage" door type of window?

I want to be able to serve food on the counter in the kitchen and be able to grab it from the deck side, and put the dirty dishes back on the counter without walking all of the way around, so I just ordered a flip out window. I think they are the only ones making them in the US, as far as I could find. Not cheap but less than a nano wall, plus it's up out and of the way. They come up to 8' wide, but at that width there would have to be panes, and distract from the view. A pull down screen adds a good amount more to the cost. How about a wide slider window? If it's 8' wide, when the 2 sliders are open you would have 4' of pass through, and a screen is no problem.

What's the price range of these Flip Out windows? I'm interested in my a 5' wide flip out for my DC rowhouse kitchen but have no sense of the magnitude of cost. Thanks!

We're considering adding a pass through window from our kitchen to our back patio. Hoping to glean insights from folks that have done the same. How long have you had it? Do you love it? Regret it? Any other advice from your experience? Thanks!

Love it. Ours is a French style window. Hinges allow it to open flat against back if the house. We’re in CA where no screens aren’t an issue. We out a narrow wood counter on outside with two stools.

idea and just yesterday Ordered an Anderson folding door (window) for our kitchen rennovation. 68" wide x 48 tall. it's a 3 panel folding window - all panels will swing out. I paid $8.5K including hardware and tax. It is a custom item. The center panel will be centered over our (new, TBD) sink. Inside Counter top will "flow" to an outside bar area/paver patio/firepit/ outdoor kitchen area. I'm researcing retractable insect screens now. The Anderson Screen is crazy expensive and I hear, poor quality.

@Piney Jim did you end up putting in the Anderson pass thru? I'm in Nor Cal and looking at a flush mount La Cantina window. wondering about the weather issues if any because it is not a covered space. I love the look but also wondering if it gets used much after all of the expense.

Yup - We installed the Anderson and it's great. We also installed a retractable screen that pulls down when the window is open. We used it pretty much every weekend right though the fall and just had it opened this past weekend. It opens to a new patio/bar/entertaining space (built when we did the kitchen/1st floor renno) that gets a lot of use, including a super cool natural gas fire feature from Montana Firepits. Kept an eye on utility bills and didn't notice any major changes, despite what others here said. No regrets - would do it again.

i know this is an older thread but looking for people with pass through windows to outside patio / outdoor kitchen and how much you use them ? i’m not southern california. ( vancouver) so we do have cold winters. the outdoor patio will be covered from rain.

We use it all the time and love it.
