Storm doors are fairly modern innovations. They're very practical, but can be ugly as sin, especially the cheap kinds. We put an all-glass storm door on our house, which shows off the beautiful oak door behind it. Not much point in putting a lot of design into a door that can't be seen.

thats because photo shoots are often done before actual people actually live in the house. you'll also notice a lack of functional coverage of the glass on the doors, too, leading people to buy them without a clue how they would cover the glass at night.

if you live in an area where a storm door is of a benefit you should have one. same with a screen door. i've always enjoyed letting the solid inside door stand open on a sunny day in march, and same with having a screen to get a breeze through the house.

unless you have jumpy dogs that would destroy a screen, get a framed storm door that is a large glass panel, changeable to a screen. they really let your inside door shine. if you have dogs you can get a door thats full glass but the top slides down for a screen just at the top.

Need a storm/screen door where I am. Extra insulation in winter, screen to allow open door without letting bugs in come summer. Ours are full glass, but I have to say we are considering changing them to the ones that have the screen built in so you can pull it up/down as needed, instead of having to change out the storm/screen window. I think that design will be more practical for us, plus while the full glass does look nice allowing full view of your door, in my case it accumulates more fingerprints and smudges than you can imagine,
