Yes. Remove that pink marble because it doesn't go with your ideas. If you try to work around it, you'll only frustrate yourself.

I an thinking after removing the marble doing a possible mix of glass tile and some talavera tile but probably one without a pattern. I would love to find am old mantle or have one specifically made so that the fireplace would no longer go to the ceiling. Maybe a nicho type design above the mantle or just leave it Sheetrock and paint. Once again, ideas please!

If you don't want a flat tile up to the ceiling, you may have to build it out above the hearth so it isn't so flat against the wall and then put the mantel over that. You probably need a professional.

Hmmm, not sure why it would need to not be level with the rest of the wall. I only want a mantel to separate the space. I believe a good weathered piece of wood should do the trick. I will search out the wood then tile and grout and treat my mantel wood. I think the only issue will be making sure I attach it to studs.

This is the front of the house. It is surrounded by. 6 ft stucco wall with glass block. I love this house!!

We had the same marble tile in our foyer ! Hate it! Took it out and installed hardwood flooring .

I really like that sort of stone look. I have a couple of construction guys coming to help me with the floors, which we are changing from carpet to tile. I am going to ask for thoughts and ideas. I'll post up after next week when we take possession and start work!
