Help with a Fireplace Wall!!!

Hey this is my parents new home. Some of the pictures are when they were about half camping out. They now have some furniture moved in, but not everything. They completely gutted the kitchen and a Bath & 1/2 to make a master. I telling you this so you understand this is NOT the finished product. What can they do with that wall.....without tearing it out. They need some kind of mantle, but above the FP opening is a blower..... I've got some ideas....it the house is not in my town.....I just got the pictures, but there are a lot of good ideas on this site. What do YOU Think?

Hi, You can insert rough logs or beams into the stone ( say protruding 12") in various places and put mantles at different levels across the wall. This keeps you from having to locate a huge ,long timber to go wall to wall. Plus by doing different levels, you solve the blower problem. Hope it helps you..

My Dad is sitting on the dining room end. He is looking into the kitchen. Some the furniture shown in the picture with dad was stuff that was left there and since has been removed.

I wouldn't do anything at all with the wall. Leave as is in it's purest form.
The ceiling seems to be very low (might be the picture) and the ceiling fans and lights I would get rid of. It looks like there are 2 helicopters about to land in the room.

Grimmett's idea is not too shabby. For a less rustic look, floating shelves could be placed on the stone, as Grimmett suggests. Organizing around a strict mantle may emphasize the extent of the stone,not lessen its impact.

If they dislike the stone wall, take it down and get a simple hearth and mantel. I would get a quote for demo and dry wall repair, especially considering they are re-doing the entire kitchen, etc.. I personally do not like that stone wall. It limits the possibilities way too much.

Could they do something like this over the fireplace opening...? You would still have the stone on either side but it may break it up - and you could show it around the opening like this example.

I really like that lingo gene, it looks like it won't involve doorways or window casings either...great call.
