Most would consider the Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum) a fine ornamental tree.

Its a delightful slow growing tree that is short in stature. They have lovely fall color and the leaves have a spicy fragrance in warm weather.

May not be what you wanted, but if you have the room for it, it will reward you with beauty. They really are nice ornamentals that don't grow to unmanageable proportions. IMO, it has more ornamental value than a redbud which shines for just a few weeks in Spring.

I hope that we've convinced you to keep your Katsura. It's far more interesting than a redbud.

Thanks to everyone for your input. The info you shared is very interesting and I guess I will leave it be but I cant tell you how disappointed I am that it isn't a redbud Now I have to find a redbud. I have waited for 5 years for this dumb plant to flower ....going out to buy a redbud asap...even if its only claim to fame is pink flowers for a short time . That was what I wanted in the first place.
