consider some solar shades for your windows

If you paint your fireplace wall a dark brown,the dark tone will allow the light from the windows to overwhelm the room and the fireplace feature will be lost. If it were to have a metallic sheen or pattern to it (like a wallpaper) to it, or something that reflects light, it could work better.

Your room has a lot of horizontal lines, so it would be worth hanging long patterned brown or beige panels or curtains from the top of the ceiling down to add some vertical lines and give the room some visual height

I agree with ASVInteriors that painting the wall dark could be a mistake. How about same color but lighter shade than the other walls. Also, I see the red in the painting, if you like it..... very very fine sheers in that color, hung thinly on either side of the window so as to keep the light, and some pillows to pop

I have red sheer curtains in my living room. The walls are a purplish blue. When the light comes in, it gives the room more of a purplish glow. I LOVE it but you need to consider what kind of light will be cast onto your walls if you go sheer. I think red sheers would look beautiful in your room.

I would avoid red, you need a colour that lightens the room so perhaps a pale teal or eau de nil are colours that will bring lightness to the room... a lemon or gold colour or, failing that, a light silvery gold... to bring some sheen back in.

A ivory paint with a touch more yellow might be nice on walls. I would lighten it up with some.

Ivory/parchment/wheat tones in your accessories too. Maybe some orangey/apricot colors too. In the photos, it looks a bit crowded with the furnishings and the heavy coffee table. How about a mirror over fireplace to lighten things up?

No offense but the brick on your fireplace is not that attractive so I would paint it a cream or white. Better yet I would layer the 2 colors for added depth (matte finish not gloss). The space is not that large so the room color I would keep the same throughout. A medium tone of cool gray would compliment the grain in your wood floors and give the room an inviting feeling.
Now onto the focal point...above the fireplace choose four square complimentary pictures or framed mirrors to give height and grandeur. Framed artwork/mirrors should be dark brown /black. I would then hang Roman shades just above the windows (lower than the top of your fireplace artwork) in a large pattern but similar to your wall color. This will accent but not compete with the fireplace. Your pop of color on the area rug and pillows is now entirely to your liking! :)

Yes I've thought about painting the brick on the fireplace. Ill prob choose a white cream like you suggested. I've already bought paint for the room unfortunately. It's a medium dark brown and a light brown called warm sand. I may change the furniture at some point when I have the money.

You have a lot of brown in your space. Can you select a large multi colored area rug you love and some pillows, and then select the color for your walls using colors from the rug/pillows. It is easier to find paint colors after than it is to find accessories after the paint is already on the walls. If you like a neutral color palette of varying tonal and chromatic values, then I would suggest that you add interest to the room with a variety of textures, e.g. glass, metal, nubby rugs, wool or cashmere throws. You already have a great texture in the leather sectional.
