If you have hardwood floors in rest of home I would do hardwood. I like white oak unstained just polyurethaned. Cambria Quartz is a great product. Some color suggestions for white cabinetry include seagrove, summerhill or Montgomery.

I'm going through the same thing.

We decided on tile b/c we are also redoing our bathrooms and foyer (basically the entire house) so we don't want too many types of flooring. We're leaning toward white ice granite counters.
but i think white shaker looks good on oak, or dark floors.

guess it depends if you want to contrast or remain the same. if you are going for a greyish marble look on the counter, suggest like similar grey subway tile?

It's a coop apartment and the rest of the home is carpeted. Now that you mention matching of other rooms, I'm thinking I may in the future tile the home entryway which is next to the kitchen. So should I go with tile in the kitchen? If so what type of tile? Would linoleum look to cheap?
