ouch.

it can be done, but not super-easily -- there's no quick fix for lots of marble tile, ornate fireplaces, filagree, etc. you could swap out the heavy doors and repaint the interior (and probably kitchen cabinetry) and get a long way, but there will always be some hints. I guess the trick would be to play off the ornateness with rustic furniture, tongue-in-cheek ironwork, etc., for maybe an eclectic modern look.

A lot of the rooms have pretty straight modern lines, so if you can neutralize some of the tile and other parts that don't feel so at home (mainly in the formal living spaces), you can probably make it work until you can stomach some overhauls.

buy the cheapest one.... the one that needs a new kitchen and is priced accordingly, for example. then you'll have a financial leg up on what you'll need to do to make it work.

but it will be a compromise. have you considered a new build?
