Beautiful. I'm guessing that is the perennial Lupinus arboreus, not the L. microcarpus/densiflorus annuals, but I can't tell for sure. If so, some actually think of it as an invasive weed, but I just think it is one of the best plants in CA.

I was told its Lupinus luteolus. A native from almost exactly to both California borders north and south (into south Oregon too)

These are the annual Lupinus microcarpus densiflorus. they can be very robust and gorgeous! very easy to grow from seed. here's pics of some i planted in a garden i did in San Ramon.

Hmmm, not sure if it is the same but I've been checking out yellow lupine along the coast here. I did some digging and thought I had nailed it down to yellow bush lupine (Lupinus arboreus) which is a CA native Marine on south. I really only have seen it along the coast or on the east slopes of Sweeney Ridge.

I wonder if what you have in your photo is the same or something different inland. I've been meaning to dig up a clump and put it in my yard.
