planting plum tree

last modified: 10 years ago

I have searched for info on how to plant a plum tree and have found good information but have not found an answer to my specific question.

In zone 2//3 when planting a plum tree should the crown be just above soil level or like a rose, a bit below to save it during winter?

Someone told me to plant my apple trees this way and just be sure to clip off any suckers that grow from the ground as they are likely to come from the root and not from the graft. (does that make sense to you experienced folk?)

It has worked for my apple as it has grown wonderfully. and yes it does grow shoots from the ground each year which I nip off.

Anyway back to the plum is it good to bury the crown an inch or so?

Thanks so much for your time to help me.
