The foliage is OK? No spots or discoloration there? Is all the fruit on the plant affected?

I don't have any ideas. I have never seen damage like that, and I have a wide variety of pests and critters here in warm humid 8b Charleston, sc. I almost trip over the snakes sometimes, used to panic me and have me in knots. I called a truce one day and declared them beneficial. We get along now. The combined critter songs at dusk are frightening. There is a creek behind my house. Sounds like a sound track for a swamp thing horror movie.

Strange shapes of mark : Some square , some rectangular ??? It can be a tooth mark or a paw nail mark.

I think those wound should heal soon and the quality of tomatoes should not be affected for consumption.

Did you have a wind storm? I mean really strong winds that could have picked up tiny debris and pelted the skin?

Yeah, it kind of looks like physical damage from something other than being eaten. Disease and being eaten usually comes with some kind of depression or color change or softening around the marks. This is just totally clean margins. Weird.

Looks like physical damage to me. Do any of the other fruit have the same damage?

Janice, here in Charlotte, NC, me and the ground snakes are one. This Spring, when tilling, I saw 7 of them. They are only about 7 or 8 inches long and live in the soil / pine needles. I also have a creek behind my garden and the sounds at night are wonderful.

I have these marks on my romas. Not all fruit is affected. It can't be birds I have bird netting covering my whole garden. Plants are healthy.

I would guess hail damage; except that there are bruises low of the tomatoes where you'd think they would be protected. The tomatoes in back look better/unaffected. are they under more foliage?

It's not from hail haven't had any. Not all fruit is affected but even ones under more foliage have it. Haven't seen any bugs either.

Just don't know?
