Would a mid century's dining table look good in my dining room

I really hate my contemporary dining table. It was purchase 10 years ago from Salvation Army for my first appartment for $200. It's held up after several cross country moves and now I have an actual adult house, I want to have something more modern. I love the look of the white fiberglass Eames chairs but afraid they are too trendy right now. Also this space just naturally feels more rustic with all the wood trim and beams. Would you ever suggest painting them white?

If the rest of your connecting space can work with mid-century, I think it would be really nice for this wonderful space. It's airy and warm and doesn't take over a room...so you lovely view will be appreciated. Maybe consider a white table, so you don't have too much wood and also to tie in with the kitchen. If going with a wood table, adding a rug will help break up the wood on wood.

I think you could go a number of ways in this space, with the help of appropriate lighting, etc.

As for painting, I don't think I'd do the beams, but I'd do all the trim without even blinking.

Maureen, I love the idea of a white table bc there is so much dark wood floor that is overpowering. I would also love a good rug to soften the space but my toddler would probably ruin it with all of her food flinging. One day though!

You won't need a rug with the white table anyway...given it breaks up the wood on its own. All the best.

First, I am noticing the gorgeous view, but also that there isn't much proper lighting. You can always put down an inexpensive rug and then get rid of it later. I had one that you could take outside and hose down.

I wouldn't think of Eames at trendy... their classic...
I think the way to make them look "now" is to NOT get a Mid-century table but something more simple and modern w/square legs instead of tapered or turned and a solid wood top similar to the table you have...
Maybe buy the chairs first and see if you fall in love with your table again

Don't rush into this. There are some great articles on Houzz about midcentury design and Danish modern. A Danish teak table (there are lots of them out there to buy second hand) and white Eames chairs would look amazing. Keep the wood trim as is. Do not paint it. Midcentury design usually contains wood elements.
